January 2020 Plan

I want to be transparent and open with my strategies to increase interest in my site, my travels, my brand, and ultimately my life. There are a few reasons for this: Repeatable process, accountability partners, and trust & transparency.

  1. I want my strategy to be repeatable. It’s difficult to convince anybody of anything these days, and I’m trying to convince you that your passion is worth pursuing. Not only that, but it is within reach, given proper planning and with adequate accountability.

  2. I need accountability partners. When I decided to take my future into my own hands, my motivation could not be contained. I’m sure you’ve felt that way about your own passions-you spent all day looking for that first car you would restore, you bought a new camera to start your own freelance business, you bought a sales class to learn how to be successful selling anything-and so on. But if you have felt that way, the converse state of mind, complete lethargy or overwhelming despair. Either way, the whole point of Appreciating Interest is consistency. Without trusting the process and working on succeeding daily, I am destined to the doldrums of fleeting motivation. So that’s where you come in. I shirked the idea of social media, claiming it was an unhealthy comparison of unrealistic standards (have you seen Social Dilemma???), but it can also be a powerful source for good. So, I want to be very deliberate with my use of Social Media as a tool, instead of being a tool used for Social Media.

  3. I believe there is a lack of trust in society today, at least in the society I live in-and I believe the only way to reduce that barrier is to be honest and open in everything I do. I am not perfect, I don’t claim to be, nor do I aspire to become perfect-that is an unrealistic expectation, one that I myself was prone to and am slowly overcoming. I was scared of Social Media for fear of both appearing too bought in to the surface-level fame that it can bring, and for not appearing polished enough-again, this led to inaction, with one exception: Shower Beer Reviews. The idea came from my friend Mike, who would send me videos of him drinking a beer in the shower, and it looked fun, so I did the same, and I posted it. Funnily enough, I didn’t care if anyone watched these reviews, I just enjoyed making them. I think it was because I enjoyed it and had no other motivation than drinking beer, people started commenting that they loved them. My friends sent me their own reviews. It was awesome, but then I got to the point of worrying how to present better and it actually became stressful to think about! But this did inspire me to pursue something that was more important to me than reviewing beers, and that’s how Appreciating Interest came about.

So given that, I will not be removing content from my site, merely I will be updating, striking through imprecise information, and amending prior thoughts. You will see where I have come and where I plan to go along each stage of this journey, but two things should be noted: I reserve the right to change my mind or change course with Appreciating Interest at my discretion, and I hope one day that this movement is bigger than myself-someday in the future, I will move on from a personal case study to the first student of AI. Then, we will really be cooking. The process will be refined, and at that point, AI will no longer be in my hands, it will be changing lives personally beyond my own. When they start finding success, then I will know that my purpose and life’s mission is working.
